We are excited to launch the second edition of CINÉMA AFRICAIN! 2026 with a compelling selection of African cinema.
The opening night features NOMAD SHADOW by Eimi Imanishi — a feature debut that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025, set in occupied Western Sahara. The film follows a young Sahrawi woman's forced return home after her deportation from Spain, confronting the fractures colonialism and displacement leave on identity, family, and home.

Eimi lmanishi (director, producer) is a Japanese American filmmaker. Her award winning short films include Battalion To My Beat (2016) which won the Canal+ Award for Best International Short at Le Festival du Court Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand in 2017, and One-Up (2017). Imanishi isa 2018 Sundance Directing and Screenwriting Fellow.
Frida Marzouk, A.F.C. (director of photography) is a French Tunisian cinematographer whose work spans narrative features, documentaries, short films, and commercials. After studying film in Paris, she moved to New York to focus on cinematography, beginning her career as a focus puller before working for over a decade as a lighting technician. Her recent work as a cinematographer includes Where the Wind Comes From (Sundance Film Festival, 2025), Promised Sky (Cannes Film Festival, Un Certain Regard, 2025), and Cotton Queen (Venice Intl. Film Festival, Settimana della Critica, 2025).
